Mrs. Sophie Powers Swain, 83, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 4 am. She peacefully passed away at her home in Ernul comforted by her family.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 pm in the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Swain, daughter of the late Hula and Etta Parker Willis, was a native of Craven County. Mrs. Sophie was a lifelong member of the Ernul community where she owned and operated Finger Tip Foods. She was a long time member of Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Ernul.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Powers Denny; and her second husband, David Swain, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Powers and his wife, Phyllis, of Ernul; granddaughters, Rhiannon Powers Simpson and Jessica Powers Cuba both of James City; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are step-sons, David Swain, Jr. of New Bern, Keith Swain of West Virginia and Brian Swain of New Bern and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the church prior to the service.
