Boonville- Frederick C. Berger, 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at The Bishop Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, after a brief illness. Fred was born in the Town of Leyden, on January 23, 1939, a son of Frederick C. and Erma I. Leichty Berger. A life resident of Boonville, he graduated from Boonville Central School, Class of 1957, and for a time thereafter was employed in carpentry with his father. From 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961, Mr. Berger served his country in the U.S. Army, serving stateside and in Korea. After his discharge, he served in the US Army Reserves until 1964. On May 5, 1990, Frederick was united in marriage with Frances Johns, at the Star of Light Baptist Church in Kokomo, Indiana. Mrs. Berger passed away on November 20, 2005. For many years, Mr. Berger was employed as a radar installer for Griffis Airforce Base of Rome, traveling throughout the United States and around the world to radar sites. Mr. Berger was a life member of Boonville Elks Lodge # 2158, a member of Charles J. Love Post American Legion and Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., all of Boonville. Fred is survived by one daughter and son in law, Nikki (Jamie) Podkowka, Boonville; two granddaughters, Riley and Madison, both of Boonville; one brother and sister in law, Edward (Elizabeth) Berger, Boonville, two nephews, Benjamin Berger and Guy Berger, both of Boonville; great nephews, Scott (Ashley) Berger and Douglas (Kisha) Berger all of Boonville and a great niece, Elise (Mike) Bailey, Boonville. Fred is also survived by his step children, Jim, Kennith, Richard, Kimberly and Melissa, all of Kokomo, Indiana. He was predeceased by a step son, Allen. Services will be Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and The Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will render Military Rites. Calling hours are from 12 Noon until the service time. Following the service, all are invited to attend a celebration of Fred's life, at Charles J. Love Post American Legion, East Schuyler St. Boonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Fire Company Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 164, Boonville, NY 13309.
