Gilbert Walls Garrett, Jr.

Gilbert Walls Garrett, Jr. went to be with The Lord surrounded by family and friends, October 10, 2019 at his residence. He was born April 25, 1932 at Wardensville, WV, the son of the late Gilbert and Opal Wolford Garrett. Junior was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired in 2002 with 39 years of service at J.F. Allen and Co. as a heavy equipment operator and also for 17 years at Garrett Construction in Harrisville. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Harrisville. Jr.’s great joys were first and foremost serving the Lord and telling others about God’s Great Love. He was a true modern day disciple. Jr. was a family man. He adored his wife Shirley of 65 years and loved any family functions or gathering with his children and grandchildren. He loved his church and served for over 27 years. Jr. also loved being outdoors and in the seat of any heavy equipment or machinery. He is survived by his wife Shirley T. Rinard Garrett; four children, Roger Garrett (Bonnie) of Harrisville, Ronald Garrett (Kathy) of Hamburg, NJ, Linda Nutt (Ronnie) of Harrisville and Cookie Law (Gerry) of Harrisville; sister, Joy Snapp of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Travis Garrett, Matthew Garrett, Bryan Garrett, Chris Garrett, Tim Garrett, Dan Garrett, Dana Nutt, Aaron Nutt, Chad Nutt, Andy Law and Gara Beth Satterfield; twenty five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special nephew and niece, Kenny and Janet Willingham. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Garrett, Charlie Garrett and grandson, Patrick Todd Garrett. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, October 14, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church in Harrisville with Pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery with military rites by Harris-Ritchie Post 3554 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Friends may call at Raiguel Funeral Home, Sunday October 13, 2019 from 4-8 PM and Monday from 10-11 AM at the church. . In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Assembly of God, Missionary Program, 509 East Main St., Harrisville, WV 26362.
