Betty A. (Sanner) Farris Obituary

It is with a broken heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my beautiful mother, Betty Farris in my home on the afternoon of October 10, 2019.

She was born on June 1, 1928 in New Kensington, PA, to her beloved late parents, Abraham and Anna Sanner.

Mom worked a variety of jobs until finally going to work for the Department of Public Welfare where she retired. Not being able to sit still, she decided to work part time as a bank teller, vehicle test administrator and at Lark Enterprises. Her main love was working every summer alongside her father who owned the Snow Cone stand in the Cascade Park grove for many years.

Once she left working behind, she began to travel again as she had done all her life, having visited every state except for Alaska and Hawaii. She always made a point of putting her feet in the water on every ocean, lake and gulf shore she visited. Not to mention, gambling at every casino she found (losing not only her winnings but mine as well)! She instilled the travel bug in all of us at an early age, as family vacations were the norm, not the exception. She also traveled to a variety of countries including Lebanon where she accompanied her father back to his homeland for a last visit. During our travels to Mexico and Canada, we were always stopped and searched at the border, me saying it was because of her, and her saying it was because I looked guilty of something! She tried to take a taser into Canada saying it wasn’t a forbidden stun gun, and border patrol told her it was 10 times stronger than a stun gun and wouldn’t let us in with it!

My mother gave love, kindness, and friendship to everyone she met, sharing her huge warm heart and really, really “cold” hands. She gave her unconditional love to her children who always came first to her no matter what, not to mention her beloved pets.

My mother has left behind her three heartbroken children, son, Steve Farris (Patricia), daughter, Maryann Farris-Sattler (Ken) and daughter, Marsha Morris (Michael); and her grandchildren, Sanner, Justine and Haley.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of thirty four years, Francis (Abe) Farris.

She was a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm at St. Elias Orthodox Church 915 Lynn St. New Castle, PA.

The sacrament of the funeral will be held at St. Elias Church at 10am on Thursday. Father Kevin Long will officiate. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery.
