Vojislav "Voja" Savic Troy, Michigan Obituary

Vojislav "Voja" Savic

Vojislav Savic was born into humble circumstances in the village of Vratnica, Macedonia on August 19, 1940, the second of three sons of Andjelko and Bozana Savic. Smart and hardworking, Vojislav was the first person in his family to complete his university education, graduating from the University of Belgrade with a degree in agronomy in 1967. Vojislav followed his family to Detroit in 1971. He learned English and saved money to complete a degree in food science at Michigan State University in 1974. After a long distance courtship, Nevenka (Nela) came to Detroit and married Voja in 1975. Together, they built a good life for their daughters, living in Troy, Mi for over 40 years. He was a devoted father, shuttling his daughters to many afterschool activities, playing at the beach during family vacations, and working very hard so they could have a wonderful childhood. Known as Victor to his American friends, neighbors, and colleagues, Voja was many things over his career, from food scientist to baker to small business owner to salesman. He was most proud of his time managing the dairy ingredients laboratory, first for Stauffer Chemical Company and then for Milk Proteins. He did whatever it took to provide for his family. A gregarious and fun-loving person, Voja was loved by many family and friends. A wonderful host, Voja was known for his barbecue, quick wit, and love of Serbian music and dance. Voja was the loving husband of Nevenka for 44 years. He was the beloved father of Olga Stella (Dante) and Ksenija Ostach (Mark). Nothing was more important to him than his adoring grandchildren, Daniel and Silvia Stella and Jobie and Mila Ostach. Vojislav was the dear brother of Sava Savich (Zlata) and Anton Savich (Verka) who preceded him in death, and the devoted son of Andelko and Bozana, also deceased. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends Monday, October 14, 2019 3-8 p.m. with Pomen at 7 p.m. at A.J.
