Letitia Ivey

HOULTON - Letitia M. Ivey (Willams)  passed away at Madigan Estates Nursing Home on October 10, 2019 at the age of 96 with daughter Carol at her side. She was born on October 29, 1922, Ystradynlais, South Wales, Great Britain  to Thomas and Annie(James ) Williams. She had 7 brothers and 3 sisters. In 1928, at the age of 5, she immigrated to Canada aboard the ship Minnedosa with her parents and siblings, Evelyn, Leslie, John and Emlyn, ages 7 years to 8 months. In 1942, she married Chester and they were together for 62 years. It was never just Letty or just Chester, they were referred to as “Chester and Letty”.  In 1944, Wendell was born and Carol in 1947.  In 1955, the family moved to Houlton and later became citizens under the guidance of Elson Blood, an Immigration and Customs employee at the border in Houlton. Letitia was always a hard worker. She was employed at the Folsom Nursing Home, Grant’s store, Sportwelt Shoe Factory, SAD 29 in the cafeteria , and Visiting Nurses of Aroostook as a CNA. She didn’t think anyone should retire early. She was a member of the Military Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and also a member of the Court Street Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Carol and her husband, Peter Blood, of Houlton, daughter-in-law , Jennifer Ivey of Alfred, ME; Granddaughter, Kim, and her husband ,Micheal Laliberte; great-grandson, Isaac, from Falmouth, ME;  Grandson, Andrew Blood and wife, Melissa; great-grandson, Riley; great-granddaughter, Hadley, from Norton, MA; brothers: Emlyn, Watcyn, and Edward; and sisters: Winnifred and Dorothy. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester, in 2005 and their son, Wendell, in 2010, her parents and her brothers, James, Leslie, John, David and sister Evelyn. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Madigan Estates for their care for almost 3 years, Dr. Abouleish, Mr. Bean for all of his visits from the church, Paster Lunn and Peter for everything he has done for my mother. Donations in her memory may be made to the Court Street First Baptist Church. Friends may call from 2-3 pm, Sat., Oct. 19 with a funeral service at 3 pm with Rev. Mark Lunn officiating.
