Pansy Smead Fagan Obituary

Pansy Smead Fagan, age 87, of Amity, formerly of Daisy, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in her late sons home in Daisy. She was born on May 28, 1932, in Siloam Springs, the daughter of William Franklin Henderson and Mintie Jane Hillhouse Henderson. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Wallace Smead; her second husband, Sonny Fagan; her son, Danny Smead; four brothers, Alvin Henderson, Tommy Henderson, Willie Henderson, and George Henderson, Jr.; and her sister, Jewel Wolfe. Pansy came to Daisy in 1948, with her sister Jewel Wolfe and family. Soon after their arrival, Wallace Smead saw this young, red headed woman standing at the end of the street and he declared that was the woman he was going to marry. They married April 1, 1949. Nine months later, Gloria was born. Eighteen months after that, Danny was born. Pansy and Wallace moved their family to California and Indiana for a period of time. Upon returning to Arkansas, Pansy worked at the glove factory in Glenwood for many years, and also spent time in Mexico training new employees to sew gloves. She was a member of Daisy Freewill Baptist Church where she and Wallace were founding members. After her first retirement, Pansy worked as a cook at the Kirby Restaurant and became famous for her fried pies. After Wallace passed away, she married Sonny Fagan and moved to Amity. She retired once again and enjoyed traveling with Sonny, but continued to make her fried pies. After Sonnys passing, she continued to work and volunteer with Hospice. Pansy cherished every member of her Smead, Miller and Fagan families. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Miller of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her stepson, Grady Fagan of Malvern; her grandsons, Craig Breen of Cookeville, Tennessee, Brian Smead of Nashville, Kevin Smead of Glenwood and Johnny Smead of Nashville; her step-grandchildren, Emily Fagan and Ethan Fagan, both of Malvern, Daniel Miller of Brooklyn, New York and Miguel Miller of St. Petersburg, Florida; her brother, J.D. Duke of Siloam Springs; four great-grandchildren, Skyler Smead, Dalton Smead, Haddon Smead, and Savannah Smead; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Kevin Jewell, Bro. Jim Lee and Greg Miller officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daryle Cook, Bobby Tedder, Billy Jones, Tim Trout, Tony Davis and Jerry Fagan.
