Bonnie Gayle Nettles Obituary

The only daughter of Monroe C. Smith and Bonnie Camp Smith, Gayle was born in Lineville, Alabama, November 23, 1948. Don't do the math...she never aged and it's not polite to ask a lady's age. Gayle lost her beloved father, Monroe Smith, just 3 months ago. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charlie Nettles of Peachtree Corners, GA, her mother, Bonnie Smith of Norcross, GA, two brothers ~ Carey Smith of Lula, GA, & Rick Smith (Bobbie) of Maysville, GA, her niece, Ali Smith, and Great-niece, Rebecca Smith, as well as extended family members and dear friends. Gayle was employed at Mohawk Data Sciences when met the love of her life, Charlie Nettles, in 1972. Charlie was employed at Mastercraft Dental. They were married two years later, May 4, 1974, and lived in Checkmate Apartments in Tucker, GA. Our Heavenly Father created Gayle with a strong spirit fueled by creativity, compassion, love, strength and independence. She made everyone around her feel special and loved. She had the most giving heart of anyone we have ever known; you never had to ask anything of her; she paid attention, saw a need and ran with it. She loved crafts of all kinds which included collections of everything you might ever need to create special gifts to give to those around her. Gayle was always smiling, laughing, and finding the joy in living life to the fullest. We always looked forward to her visits as she found humor in everything, good or bad! Gayle, herself, was a gift to all of us. Gayle had been through so much in her life ~ a car accident many years ago which kept her in the hospital and a body cast for so long ~ numerous ups and downs throughout the years, but you never truly knew what she was enduring. Gayle was so very much like her mama ~ though she could be a private person, she was a caregiver at heart, strong and in charge, and always putting others before herself. When we ventured out to create a family cookbook, Gayle shared many of her funnies to add. Her favorite was: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte' in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO," what a ride!" Gayle, we know you are looking down on us now in your new body, rejoicing with other family members who have gone before us and we want to tell you how much you are loved and how much you will be missed. Thank you for sharing yourself with us and teaching us how to live. "WOO HOO," what a ride! "Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude." 1 Peter 3:8 NLT That, my friends, was Gayle.
