FISHKILL – Fernando R. “Freddy” Caserta, a Dutchess County resident since 1982 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 65. He was born in the Bronx on May 30, 1954. Freddy attended Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx. A skilled runner, he was a member of the school’s track & field team. After graduating in 1976, he enrolled in Manhattan College, where he continued track & field and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1976, followed by a master’s degree in 1978. Freddy dedicated his entire career to education and worked as a special education teacher for Yonkers Public Schools for 35 years. He retired in 2011. He loved watching pro football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In addition to running, other hobbies included puzzles as well as collecting memorabilia, which included a vast array of keepsakes related to sports, history, and other subjects. Freddy also co-owned several racehorses. On June 24, 1979, he married Monica DelDuca at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Yonkers. Monica survives at home in Fishkill. Additional survivors include his daughter, Caitlin Brozier & her husband Anthony of Fishkill; his son, Robert Caserta of Fishkill; his mother, Maria Caserta of Nevada; his brother, Basilio “Billy” Caserta of Nevada; and many other loving relatives & friends. Freddy was predeceased by his father, Innocenzio “Jimmy” Caserta, in 2009. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill.
