Lois June Cheatham… daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend… passed from this life and gained her heavenly reward September 11, 2019. Services will be 11 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Il. with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, Il. Visitation will be 10 to 11 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2019 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Little Galilee Christian Assembly or Harbor Light Hospice. June was born in Greenville IL June 13, 1929, the daughter of Lloyd and Claudia (Merry) Hunter. June was a lifelong resident of Illinois until moving to Olathe KS in the spring of 2014, when she became a resident at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Farm life dominated her childhood years and continued when she married Kenneth Luwayne Cheatham the summer of 1948. Ken and June began their married life as a part of the farming community in Greenville, until Ken sustained a back injury that lead him to a career with Farm Bureau. Ken’s participation with FFA resulted in his receiving the Star Farmer Award in 1948. Connections with the Young Farmers and Ranchers, not only in Illinois but throughout the country resulted in promotions within Farm Bureau which gradually shifted them north in the state, bringing them to their residence in the Wheaton area. Ken and June were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Sadly, their second son, Roger, died suddenly as a result of a work-related accident in February of 1992. June maintained the home and responsibilities with their children as Ken’s travel with work continued. June’s love for home life and her devotion as a wife and mother were paramount. Her favorite place at home was the kitchen. She was an excellent cook and managed meals for family and others, no matter the size. Their farming roots continued with bountiful vegetable gardens every summer, in the landscaping around their home, and June’s love of flowers... pansies were a favorite. When their children were grown, June worked in retail sales for men’s and women’s fine clothing. Her eye for fashion continued even at the nursing home. Throughout their marriage, church and faith were evident and a strong component in their lives. Both Ken and June were Bible School teachers, Vacation Bible School volunteers, led children in junior church, hosted guests from their church in their home, and were strong influences for Christ throughout their marriage. Both sons attended Lincoln Christian University and served the local church. Daughter, Jean, attended Wheaton College with a degree in education. June’s most recent connection with the church was with the Young at Heart group at First Christian Church, Clinton. Serving alongside her friends, she cooked and helped provide funeral meals for many years. June is preceded in death by her parents, a son (Roger Keith) in 1992, her husband in 1998 and a great grandson (Archer Courage) in 2010. June is survived by a son, Greg (Nancy) Cheatham of Olathe KS; a daughter, Jean Williams of Glen Allen VA; a daughter-in-law, Melanie Cheatham of Clinton IL; brother, Bill (Patty) Hunter of Greenville; seven grandchildren (Stefanie, Allyson, Chelsea, Carson, Courtney, Kate, Kenny); thirteen great grandchildren (Noah, Hayden, Chase, Gage, Gunnar, River, Finley, Linden, Harper, Peyton, Preston, Thomas, and Judah); a niece and nephew. Our greatest confidence is in our Lord Jesus Christ and the heavenly home He has prepared for those in the family of faith. We like to imagine Ken and June together on a celestial front porch, overlooking beautiful farmland, enjoying coffee together. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.
