Betty L. Hewitt March 30, 1929 ~ August 18, 2019 Betty L. Hewitt, 90, Marion, passed away at 9:27 am on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in her Marion home. A lifelong resident of Marion, Betty was born on Saturday, March 30, 1929, to the late Joshua and Irma (Nelson) Sailors. She was married to Charles William Hewitt, who preceded her in death. Betty was mainly a homemaker throughout her life, faithfully serving and taking care of her family. She did work for a period of time to help put her daughter through college. While her husband was alive, she was actively involved helping with the monthly retiree dinner for the UAW, as well as Care and Share. She also volunteered and helped out at the polling booths during election times. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and especially loved spending their winters in Florida and their summers at their lake cottage on Lake Knapp. Betty loved her flowers, gardening, and canning. She also loved to play all sorts of card games. Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Dave) Viellieux of Marion; three grandsons, Jimmy Hewitt of Fairmount, John Viellieux of Terre Haute, and Larry Viellieux of Muncie; granddaughter, Tonya Hewitt of Fairmount; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Jackie (Marion) Wolf of Jonesboro; and family friends, Becky Lynn, Kelli Charles, and Shelly Kane. Also preceding her in death were her son, Jerry Hewitt; great-granddaughter, Alivia Viellieux; great-grandson, Larry Viellieux, Jr.; three brothers, Carl Sailors, Warren Sailors, and Bill Devine; and three sisters, Dorothy Willman, Viola Shields, and Wilma Sorah. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. A funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at the funeral home. Pastor Mick Simpkins will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park. The family would like to especially thank the staff, Tammy, Katie, Laurie, and Nikki, from Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion given to Betty.
