Mary E. Nalls, affectionately known as “Liz”, was the 3rd oldest of 8 children and born February 10, 1926 to Lindsey and Della Mae Hannah Peoples in Lamar County, AL. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and attended New Canaan Baptist Church in Fayette growing up. She was educated in The Fayette County School system. She later received an Associate’s degree from Stillman College, Tuscaloosa and subsequently attended Alabama State, Montgomery, AL nearly obtaining Bachelor of Elementary Education.
She was united in holy matrimony to Deroy C. Nalls on April 3, 1948. They were blessed with 1 son and 7 daughters. They continued sacredly joined until Deroy’s departure August 30, 1999. Liz and Deroy moved to Birmingham and she joined with her local church family, Hayes Chapel Baptist Church in 1953 and continued worshipping and serving faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent for 22 years. She also served as President of her local Missionary Society, along with other various functions throughout the years until 1999 when health issues limited her activities. She dearly missed and frequently spoke fondly of her church family and community friends.
Preceding her in death are her 7 siblings, her beloved husband, her 4th oldest daughter, Patricia Colleen and her youngest daughter, Millie Rose.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a son; Deroy C. (Roseanna) Nalls, Jr., 5 daughters; Valla D. Thomas, Sherresa D. (Douglas) Woods, Carmia G. Akhtar, Jadie A. (Roderick) Lee, and Shawnneice B. (Joe) Brock.; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
