Glenda L. Young
Glenda L. Young, 81 of Vandalia passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Pana. She was born August 22, 1938 in Vandalia to the late Glen & Maude (Carroll) Roadarmel. She married Robert H. Young in 1956 in Vandalia and he preceded her in death in 2008. Glenda was a graduate of Vandalia High School where she was raised and after traveling many places as a military wife settled back in Vandalia in 1990. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church, formerly known as 1st Baptist Church in Vandalia. She worked many years as a bookkeeper in the Buffalo Grove School District #214 from which she retired. Her most recent employment opportunity was as Assistant Manager for O’Hare Hilton Hotel where she got to meet and get to know many famous people. Glenda was a talented artist, particularly enjoying painting, loved to sing and dance and was an avid Cubs fan. Glenda is survived by her daughter Kim (Ron) Romine of Pana and cousins, Randy (Kim) Carroll, Jeanne (Bryce) Flynn, Carol Jones, Sherri (Ed) Meza, Phyllis (Phillip) Richards, and Jay (Stacie) Carroll. She was also preceded by siblings Danny Roadarmel and Carolyn Roadarmel in infancy. The family will be hosting a celebration of life service on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Unity Baptist Church, Vandalia with Pastor Robert Weaver officiating. Memorials in Glenda’s honor may be made to Unity Baptist Church,716 E. 1700 Ave, Vandalia, IL 62471.
