She received her early education in country school and graduated from Mt. Lake in the Class of 1942. She then moved to Windom where she worked at Worthmore Department Store. On May 20, 1950, Clara was united in marriage to Bernard “Bud” Henkels at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. After marriage, Clara and Bud lived in Southbrook Township where they farmed. This marriage was blessed with five children, Gery, Sandra, Meriam, Kevin and Jeff. In 1984, they moved off the farm and into Dundee. Bernard passed away in 1998. Recently, Clara’s health began to decline and she was admitted to the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at the age of 91. Clara was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake where she was a member of WCCW. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Extension Club.
