Jabie Zar "Mac" McGowan, Sr.

Jabie Zar "Mac" McGowan, Sr., 77, of Creswell died Friday, December 11, 2015, at his residence in Creswell. Born December 2, 1938 in Washington County he was the son of the late Aaron Robinson McGowan Sr. and Alethia Furlough McGowan and was preceded in death by his grandson, Dustin McGowan. "Mac" graduated from Creswell High School with the Class of 1956, worked at Weyerhaeuser, was a self employed hog farmer and owner of Mac's Self Service and was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. His family includes his daughter, Celeste McGowan Phillips of Creswell, N.C.; sons, Jabie Zar "Porky" McGowan, Jr. and wife Maricela of Creswell, N.C., Milton Kensley McGowan and fiancée Diane Burns of Siler City, N.C., Quinton McGowan and wife LeAnn of Edenton, N.C. and Chris McGowan of Creswell, N.C., mother of his children, Inez C. McGowan of Creswell, N.C.; brother, Aaron R. McGowan, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Creswell, N.C.; grandchildren, Greg McGowan and wife Andrea and Hannah McGowan; great grandchildren, Olivia and Hadley McGowan; grand dogs, Snuggles and Posh, many nieces, nephews and friends of "The Oak Tree". Memorial service will be held Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Thomas Biggs officiating .Family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home following the service and other times at the residence of his daughter, Celeste. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family in care of Celeste Phillips, 9576 Newland Road, Creswell, N.C. 27928. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
