Vera Jo "Jack" Carroll

Vera Jo "Jack" Carroll, 87, a resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 10th, 2015 in a local health care facility. Jack was born in Benton, TN on March 23rd, 1928 a daughter of the late George and Myrtle Carroll. Born and raised in southeast Tennessee, she lived in Florida for most of her life opening her home to family and friends for extended visits at the beach. Her passion for cooking and sharing a meal led to her many years of working in the “café” business. She was well-known for her exquisite southern cooking. She returned to Cleveland eight years ago to live with her brother Kenneth and then with her niece Debbie Shroyer. Debbie’s children became her adopted grandkids and she referred to herself as their “granny”. Katie Shroyer, her great-niece, was her caregiver the past three years and she told everyone that she met that Katie was her “best friend”. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers Archie Carroll and Roy Carroll, three sisters Grace Lee, Ann Brewer and Virgie Ledford. She leaves behind to cherish her memory one brother and sister-in-law Kenneth & Bernice Carroll and one sister Mae Hensley. She is has many nieces and nephews, numerous other extended family members and special friends. A graveside service is planned for Monday, December 14th, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Buttram’s Cemetery in Athens, Tennessee with Pastor Ronnie Wright officiating. Pallbearers will be Kevin Carroll, Pat Lee, Caleb Powers, Cody Shroyer, and Gwen Shroyer.
