Richard “Dick” Elmer Smith, age 82 of Montello passed away Friday morning, December 11, 2015 at the Montello Care Center. Dick was born in Buffalo, New York on February 2, 1933 to Elmer and Rita (Dion) Smith. Throughout his life, he worked in several different career fields: self-employed real estate broker, car sales and he retired as an operations engineer working with heavy machinery in the Joilet, Il area. Dick married Sharon Bradford in Illinois in 1980 and together they moved to the Montello area in 1991. Dick enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and doing yard work. In his younger years, he was a member of several bowling teams and even boxed competitively. Dick was a founding and active member of The People’s Church in Montello. Dick is survived by his wife, Sharon and seven children: Phillip (Katie) Smith, Keith Smith, Rick Jr. (Gina) Smith, Patricia (Jim) Baker, Sandy (Dave) Topp, Cindy Aguilar and Cheryl (Dave) Cross. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Donald and Ronald. A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Moundville United Methodist Church, W5501 County O, Endeavor. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Pastor Sue Oeffler will preside and private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
