John M. Sakofske Obituary

SAKOFSKE, JOHN M. of Holly; Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2015; age 37; Born August 17, 1978 he was the youngest child of Jean and Dan Sakofske, both deceased. His sisters Debra Szczecinski and Carolyn Malik (Tarique) predeceased him. He is survived by his siblings: Bonnie Millmine, Rita Mattingly (Mike), Dorothy Tucker (Marshall), Dan Sakofske (Karroll), Chris Sakofske (Pam) and Mary Cottrill (James), along with his two brothers from another mother, Les and Bert. Best friends for decades, there is nothing they would not do for one another. There has never been a more devoted husband or father. Left behind are his wife, Robin, and their six children: Christina, Corbin, Heaven, Job, Ally, and Dirk. Their family was a blended one, a wonderful combination where everyone was truly sibling in the heart, even If not by blood. Although they just celebrated their second wedding anniversary November 9, 2015, they were friends for over twenty years. John lived his life for his family and spent as much time as he could with them. He loved the outdoors, from camping and hunting to swimming and having Nerf Gun wars with the family. He spent much of his time serving God along with his family. He drove Bus John for Lakecrest Baptist Church, serving with his kids on that route. A bus kid himself, he had a passion for those who came from adversity. It was his dream to drive the church bus and reach out to the lives of those who came from a similar background. Anyone who knows John, knows that he was a hardworking man. He would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He lived his life by a code of honor. He was blunt, but he was always truthful. You could always count on him for advice because he would tell you what you needed to hear, not just what you wanted to hear. And he was never wrong… not about anything that mattered because as he would say: If he did not know for certain, he would not say anything. He constantly examined himself and strived to be a better man, husband and father. He had never been better in his entire life. It was his dream to see his children grow up and find more time to go hunting. This tragic loss makes no sense, but as John’s favorite bible verses say: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 John believed that God’s will would be done in all things. He never feared his job, despite the risks involved. He always said that he believed in two things: God and insurance… and if God wanted him, he would take him no matter what, and if he didn’t insurance would put things back to rights. Apparently God needed another angel, but he will surely be missed by those left behind. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Lakecrest Baptist Church, 35 Airport Road, Waterford. The family will receive friends at Lakecrest Baptist Church on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery.
