R. Joanne (Grubbs) Shickley April 10, 1925 - November 1, 2015 R. Joanne (Grubbs) Shickley, 90, of Sandusky, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 at The Willows at Bellevue after a lengthy illness. Joanne was born on April 10, 1925 in Youngstown, OH to the late James "Frank" and Anna (Charles) Grubbs. Joanne received her Bachelor's in Education from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, where she participated in the choir. She taught first and second grade at the Bay Area Christian Academy from 1982 to 1984 and then at Faith Memorial. Joanne was a former member of the Calvary Temple Church, and recent member of the Bellevue Alliance Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, sewing, crocheting, reading devotionals, corresponding, singing and playing the piano and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joanne was a very generous, hospitable lady, who enjoyed sharing her home. Joanne is survived by her daughters, R. Elaine (Bert) Haaga III and Janet (Wayne) Morse; sons, Charles (Dawn), Robert, and James (Susan) Shickley; 8 grandchildren, Beverly (Joe), Ritter (HiUan), Melody (Nicholas), Eric (Kate), Parker (Sondra), Donovan, Kimberly (Steven) and Travis; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her parents, Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shickley; step-mother, Bertha Knight Grubbs and step-brother, Paul Grubbs. Friends may call on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Bellevue Alliance Church, 1001 Monroe St., Bellevue. A private family graveside service will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Those wishing to contribute to R. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Niagara Falls with Dawn and me. She was grateful and very happy to go even though she had a little scare with the flimsy wheel chair and bad sidewalks. She even said she slept great in the hotel bed which was no small feat for her.
