Aubrey Finley Crook August 13, 1924 - June 10, 2013 Aubrey Finley Crook of Riesel passed away Monday, June 10, 2013. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Aubrey was born to Lee and Clara Bess Crook on August 13, 1924, in Lorena, Texas. He served proudly in the European Theatre during World War II, in which he was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war Aubrey continued serving others by working at the Waco VA Hospital for 35 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed the life of a gentleman farmer. Aubrey Crook, a gentle man left us after a short but hard fought battle. He had his own special place in our lives. Whether it was as a good son, a loyal brother, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a true friend, Aubrey was all those and so much more. He was a great teacher of life, a rescuer of lost souls and a mighty snappy dresser. His smile engulfed you, his wisdom leads you, his tales made you forget any worries. He made each of us lucky enough to know him feel as if we were his favorite person in the world and you knew you were loved. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Emory, Coke, Edward, Vernon, and Billy; his loving wife, Odessa Eady Crook; and his wonderful companion, Carol Buchanan. He is survived by his son, Wayne and wife, Marcia; his grandchildren, Karen Crook Burgess and husband, Brian, Julie Crook Cutrer and her husband, John, Shelley Buffler and husband, Ryan, and David Oneal; his great-grand children, Everett Crook and Aubrey Olivia Burgess and Lillian, and Charlotte and Grace Cutrer; his sister, Helen Crook Stem; brother, Rob Crook and wife, Beverly; many nieces and nephews; and his special care givers, Clare and Mary Crook. Most important of all, Aubrey Crook loved and is survived by all those who loved him. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bush's Chicken Eating Club Board of Directors, Lewis and Allan Breeland, Rufus Renfro, Robert Story, Johnny Kuretsch, Bill McCown and Emilio Villarreal. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity or the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas.
