Ruby E. Newman

Ruby Esmenda Newman was ascended to heaven at age 88 on Sunday, August 18, 2019. She was born on April 26, 1931 in St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. Ruby was predeceased by her parents Emeline and Zachariah Henry and also her husband Vincent Newman. Ruby and Vincent were married almost 36 years and were loving parents to three children. Ruby lived a long and blessed life. She emigrated from Jamaica in 1956 to England and later relocated to the United States in 1980, residing in East Hartford for 14 years. Later in her life she proudly became an American citizen. Ruby was a devoted follower of Christ and celebrated God through the gift of song. Her faith in God allowed her to persevere and pursue various endeavors. She was a seamstress by trade and because of her talent, she was able to make her daughter Yvonnes beautiful wedding gown. Ruby was employed as a nurses aide at Chelsea Place Nursing Home in Hartford from which she retired. After retirement, she relocated to Florida before eventually settling at her final destination in Douglasville, Georgia with her daughter Elizabeth. Fondly referred to as Sister Ruby to friends or Nana by her grandchildren, Ruby was able to express her love for others by generously sharing her gifts of cooking and baking (especially her well renowned rum cake and lasagna) and always lending a hand when called upon. Ruby will be missed by many people from all walks of life as she was loved and cherished. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Yvonne OSullivan (husband Roy); Colin Newman (wife Kimberly); and Elizabeth Dennis (husband Wayne). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Yvette OSullivan; Richard OSullivan; Vanessa Davenport; Desiree Gordon; Kyle Newman, Claire Newman, Kendall Newman and Carter Newman. Ruby also leaves two great grandchildren, Haven OSullivan and Elijah Gordon. Besides immediate family, Ruby leaves behind a host of many other relatives and great friends. She is now an angel in Gods kingdom. Funeral services will take place at Believers Harvest Church in Douglasville, Georgia on Wednesday August 28, 2019. A burial graveside service is scheduled for Friday August 30, 2019 at Hillside Cemetery, 162 Roberts St, East Hartford, CT at 11 am.
