Irene E. Sondgeroth, 97 of Mendota passed away August 21, 2019 in Heritage Health Mendota. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 10:30am in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Peterstown. Rev.Peter Pilon will officiate. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10am in Schwarz Funeral Home the day of the service. Irene was born June 12, 1922 in Leonore, Illinois to John and Emma (Appel) Wiesbrock. She married Leon Sondgeroth on November 22, 1945, he preceded her on February 2, 2016. During her work career Irene was the Bakery Manager at Classon's Super Food for many years, she was then a cafeteria worker at Northbrook Elementary School until her retirement. Irene was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Ladies Altar and Rosary Society of Peterstown, LaSalle County Home Extension and the neighborhood Euchre Club. She was known for her wonderful cooking and delicious pies. Irene was an outstanding Scrapbooker and Archivist. All the grandchildren benefitted from these talents. Survivors: 2 sons: Allen (Mary Lynn) Sondgeroth of Mendota and Leo (Lois) Sondgeroth of Sandwich; 5 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Steven) Woods, Douglas (Aina Gutierrez) Sondgeroth, Nathan (Jennifer) Sondgeroth, Maria (Tim) Kessler and Neil Sondgeroth; 9 great grandchildren: Garrett Woods, Gavin Woods, Brynn woods, Ryan Sondgeroth, Avery Sondgeroth, Eva Sondgeroth, Asher Sondgeroth, Elsa Sondgeroth and Justin Kessler, and sister-in-law Mary Wiesbrock of Streator. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a stillborn son: Dale, 2 brothers: Wilfred Wiesbrock and Leroy Wiesbrock, and 3 sisters: Agnes Battistelli, Bernice Winner, and Wilma Sondgeroth.
