Age 69, Brookside, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 18, 2019 in Saint Vincent’s Nursing House. Born in Halifax on August 22, 1949, he was the son of the late John “Jack” and Ruth (Gregory) Mitchell. Greg had a full and rewarding career with the NS Provincial government, retiring after 32 years. He enjoyed the time spent with his Springer Spaniels, field trialling and hunting. He also enjoyed playing hockey and watching his Montreal Canadiens. He had a love of music and spent many years singing and playing his guitar at St. Christopher’s Church. Greg loved his family above all else and cherished the time he spent with them. We are left with an abundance of joyful memories. He touched a lot of lives and will be missed by many. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sharon (Miles); daughter, Trina; son, Matthew (Jennifer); grandchildren, Alix (Michael), Hillary, Campbell and Thomas; great grandchildren, Daniel and Cordelia; brother, John (Mary); sister Deborah (Kevin) Wilson; sister-in-law Holly; aunt, Pearl and many other family members. Besides his parents, Greg was predeceased by his uncle, Harry Gregory and his brother, Rev. Michael Mitchell. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 23 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Parish, 3709 Prospect Rd, Shad Bay, with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Greg, may be made to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, 2080 Windsor St., Halifax, NS, B3K 5B2.
