Funeral service for Dewey Erskine Black was held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the St. James CME Church in Lumber City, Ga with Rev. Robert Haywood, Sr., Rev. Joseph McLeod, Sr. and Rev Joyce Batten. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lumber City, GA On August 18, 2019, Mr. Dewey Erskine Black passed into eternal rest after a brief illness at Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He was born May 4, 1954 to the late Ernest Black, Jr. and Beatrice Taylor Black. He was a member of St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Lumber City, Georgia. He was a graduate of Telfair County High School. He was employed with Hazlehurst Mills for over 27 years. He leaves to cherish his fond memories: a devoted loving sister, Charmaine Howell; a devoted, loving niece/caregiver, Marion Black; a caring, loving nephew, Tarvarious (Rickina) Black. Children: Ashika Zakia Howell and Lisa Howell. Five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; Aunts and uncles: Roosevelt (Mary) Taylor of Daytona Beach, FL; Dewey Taylor, Jr. of Starke, FL’ Jeffery Conoway of Jacksonville, FL; Jeannie Conoway of Orlando, FL. Devoted cousin “Brother” Ronald (Kathy) Black of Lithonia, GA. THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE – Wondalyn Green. Devoted friends: Rachel “Stella” Holloway and John Moss and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends. Active Pallbearers: Josh Black, Ronald Black, Delancier Black, Sr., Elmo Chatman, Bobby Joyce, and Willie Wright Honorary Pallbearers: The Stewards of St. James CME Church, John Moss and Kelvin Smith Flower Attendants: The Class of 1972, Cousins and Friends
