Burton Langhorn Miller

Burton Langhorne Miller was born on March 21,1929 in Little Falls, New Jersey to the late Blanche K. Miller and M. Annie Taylor. He was the youngest of six siblings, Samual Taylor (Sam-Boy) Alice Miller, James Miller (Billy), Elouise Booker, Edith Higgs and one sister-in-law Johnetta Cooper all who preceded him in death. He joined the Marines at an early age in April 1944 where he served in WWII in Germany & Guam. After an honorable discharge he was self-employed as a Carpenter/Bricklayer. Burton met and married Barbara Cooper on March 26, 1977. They were married for thirty-two years until her death on September 28, 2009. Burton accepted Christ at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cartersville, VA. After his marriage to Barbara he joined her church Bloomfield Baptist Church where he served on the trustee and usher board and remained a devoted member. Burton departed this life on August 18, 2019 after a brief illness at Southside Community Hospital in Farmsville, VA. He is survived by his two children, son Selmond V. Craig, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, a devoted daughter Sonji Craig of Tallahassee, FL, one granddaughter DaJaynae Williams of Fairfax, VA, and a grandson Urban M. Phillips of Tallahassee, FL, two devoted nieces Arlene S. Hill of Crofton, MD and Denise B. Johnson of Maryland and a niece Charli Smith of Morningside, MD and two nephews Clifford J. Belton of Hollywood, FL, and Patrick Cooper of Brooklyn, NY three sister-in-law’s Roberta Miller, of Cumberland, VA Bertha L. Cooper of Tallahassee, FL and Veronica Cooper of Atlanta, GA. And a host of other loving relatives, close friends and neighbors. Devoted friends Donald Parker, Ronald Reagin, Jimmy Stewart and Doris Tisdale who helped care for him during his brief illness. Memorial Service Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Bloomfield Baptist Church, Wilson, VA. Interment Monday, September 9, 2019 at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia (private) W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
