James D. Barry

JANESVILLE—James D. Barry, age 75, of Janesville, died Sunday, August 18, 2019, at his home. He was born in Janesville on April 2, 1944, the son of the late John W. and Thenosha T. (McCord) Barry and was a 1962 graduate of Janesville High School. Jim served in the US Army from June 1965 until May 1967 and was stationed in Korea. He married Susan H. VanGalder on Jan. 10, 1970, in Janesville. Jim was employed by State Electric for over 40 years, retiring as the manager in Dec. 2013. Jim loved to cook, bake, coach junior bowling, watch baseball, crossword puzzles and collect novelty items such as odd coins, nutcrackers, and Campbell soup novelty items. Survivors include his wife, Susan; 3 children: Brandi (Allen) Blevins of Janesville, John (Jennifer) Barry of Saline, MI, and Bryan (Nga) Barry of Janesville; 4 grandchildren: Evan, Ashley, Makenna, and Matthew; 3 siblings: David (Diane) Barry, John “Jack” (June) Barry, and Sharon (Craig) Danielson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 6 siblings: Delbert Barry, Francis Barry, Jeannette Young, Carolyn Fleener, Donald Baker and Delores Baumgartner. Per Jim’s wishes, no public services will be held. The family will hold a private military honors ceremony at the APFEL EHLERT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Edgerton. “Goodnight Gracie; Goodnight”
