Rita Martin, age 93, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Meramec Nursing Center, surrounded by her family. Rita Bernice was born June 9, 1926 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Aloisius and Josephine (Tarkowski) Pudlouski. She grew up and attended school in St. Louis. Rita was united in marriage to James “Jinx” Martin on July 19, 1958 in Alton, IL and to this union there were four boys born: Thomas, John, Kevin, and Robert. In 1964, Jinx and Rita moved their young family to Sullivan where Jinx began work at Pea Ridge mine. Although Rita worked in a shoe factory while she was younger, she spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed being a wife and mother and raising her boys. Rita also sold Avon cosmetics for a time. Through the years she loved attending yard sales, reading, and even dancing. In retirement, Rita and Jinx enjoyed traveling together. She will be missed by her many family and friends. Rita is survived by four sons: Tom Martin of Union, MO, John Martin and wife, Laverne, of Sullivan, MO, Kevin Martin and wife, Sheila, of Bourbon, MO, and Bob Martin and wife, Regina, of Fletcher, MO; nine grandchildren: Michael Martin of St. Clair, MO, Christie Starr and husband, Joe, of Sullivan, MO, Heath Johnson of Festus, MO, Jamie Beal and husband, Kevin, of Sullivan, MO, Colby Johnson and wife, Ashley, of Blackwell, MO, Justin Martin of Hermann, MO, Sara Martin of Sullivan, MO, Kyle Martin and wife, Maribel, of Sullivan, MO, and Layne Martin of Fletcher, MO; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Marie Martin of Washington, MO; nieces & nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jinx” Martin; her parents; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Father Paul Telken officiating. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.
