Stephen L. Zabel, Sr., 64, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from a short illness at his son’s home in Washington. There will be a time of gathering of family and friends at his son’s home, 2795 Red Oak Avenue, Washington, Iowa on August 24, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., where a BBQ Memorial will be held. The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction is caring for Steve’s family and arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Stephen was born on September 16, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Carl and Thelma Savenia Zabel. On May 20, 1979, he was united in marriage to Diane Morgan. Steve worked at John Deere of Waterloo, before moving to Conesville, Iowa to work at Tyson Fresh Meats for 20 years. Steve enjoyed camping, host BBQ’s and spending time with friends from Hill Top Bar. Steve will be deeply missed by his three children, Theresa (Pat) Marin of Fredonia, Jackie (Daniel) Ramirez of Washington and Stephen (Rachel) Zabel, Jr. of Washington; grandchildren, Clay, Pat Jr., Kylie, Haley, Venessa, Ariel, James, Keith and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Cynthia, Jaydon, Manuel and Julian; one brother, Keith of California; one sister, Carla Wigman of Waterloo; special nephew, Paul (Michelle) Gaede; nephews and nieces, Paul Jr. Samantha, Philip, Jade, Samantha and Patrick. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Carl (Bernadine), Thelma (Ivan) and his wife, Diane; sister-in-law, Rita Zabel and brother-in-law, Paul Wigman Memorials may be directed to the family at 2795 Red Oak Avenue, Washington, Iowa, 52353.
