Cumberland, MD – Donald Lee Wharton, 53, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born January 27, 1966, in Cumberland, MD, Donnie was the son of Rita Victoria (Burkett) Gedeon and husband, James Steven, Oldtown, MD, and the late Paul Wharton, Sr. Donnie was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1984, where he played football and baseball. He was employed at Lumber and Things as a forklift operator for 27 years. Donnie boxed with the “Has Beens” Organization, competed in the Golden Gloves, and tried out for the Lake Placid Olympic Boxing Team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his family. Donnie was a member of the Oliver’s Grove United Methodist Church. Besides his mother, Donnie is survived by his wife: Catina Wharton; his children: Ashley Logsdon and husband, David; Sarah Dolly and husband, Tyler; Rebecca Wharton; and Donald Lee Wharton, Jr.; and his stepchildren: Coby Kauffman and fiancée, Marci Robinette; and Cristen Kauffman. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Sage and Sumer Logsdon, Lukas Dolly, and Brooklyn Dolly; his brothers: Paul Wharton, Jr., and wife, LuAnn; Ronald Wharton and wife, Lori; and Robert Wharton and wife, Teresa; his aunt: Genevieve Twigg and husband, Jake; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
