Celebration of life service for Maynard John Trudy, 89, Watertown, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Brentford American Legion, Dr. Peggy Wobbema officiating and military honors by Brentford American Legion Post 242. Maynard died Tuesday, October 6 at Bryant Parkview Care Center. Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Maynard John Trudy was born on a farm near Brentford, SD on May 23, 1926 to Jack and Sylvia (Kahla) Trudy. He attended Brentford School and then joined the Navy where he served on the Winged Arrow. After serving his country, he worked in the auto plants in Detroit, before returning to Brentford to farm with his father. On November 1, 1956 he married Jodean Meister. They made their home on the farm until 1981 when they moved to Aberdeen. Maynard started planting trees for the Brown County Conservation District, a job he held for ten years. He claimed he planted over 250,000 trees. Following the death of his wife he moved to Watertown and became a resident of Meadow Lake Assisted Living. He truly loved his time there and his afternoons spent at the Watertown Senior Center playing pinochle. Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and cribbage. He was a member of the Brentford American Legion and the Watertown Senior Citizens. Maynard’s wishes were to be cremated with his ashes scattered to the wind. Grateful for having shared Maynard’s life are his children: Lorna (John) Stonebarger, Watertown, Marsha (Paul Engman) Frericks, Fargo, ND, Luie (Desiree) Trudy, Ridgecrest, CA, Mark Trudy, Aberdeen; grandchildren: Andrea Grann, Jared (Terri) Frericks, Marisa (David) Meidinger, Adam (Kaitlyn) Stonebarger, Kristina Trudy, Stephanie (Lance) Headrick, Dezzie Melton, Lizzie Melton, Missie (Danny) Foster; great-grandchildren: Alivia, Nevaeh, Layla, Jonah, Logan, Mavrick, Piper, Knox, Harper, Emmett, Maden, Christopher (Cassie), Layne, Mickaylah, Isabella, A.J.; great-great-grandchildren: Taylor, Tallulah, and Corbin. Preceding him in death are his wife Jodean in 2011, his parents: Jack and Sylvia Trudy; sisters: Martha (Earl) Norton, Luella (Earl) Whitney; grandsons: Jon Grann and James Stonebarger.
