Nelda A. Riel Boscawen Nelda Arlene (Elkins) Riel, 92 a long time Pittsfield resident, died September 3rd at the Merrimack County Home following a long illness. Nelda was a quiet and gentle giver of care, who asked for very little and always gave so much. She was born in Pittsfield, NH the daughter of Etta Elkins. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and nursing school at Faulkner Hospital in Boston. Following WW II she married Armand Riel in Pittsfield. She worked for many years for Dr. John Argue and Dr. Harold Conrad at the Pittsfield Medical Center. She retired in 1989 and she and Armand did some traveling including a trip to France. Following Armand’s death in 1998, she was an active participant at the Pittsfield Senior Center. When she retired, she was acknowledged by the Doctors, Staff and most residents of the area for the wonderful work she did. Her nickname was “The White Tornado”. When not working, she raised six children and many nieces, nephews and friends who were in and out of the house. After a life time of caring for others, she lived the last several years in peace being cared for by others. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by the staff at both the Birches from 2007 – 2012 and those at the Merrimack County Home until her passing. She leaves six children, Armand Riel of Pittsfield, Nelda Monique Riel of Florida, Angelique Mosher and husband Steven of Concord, Greg Riel of Loudon, Janique Fraser of Pennsylvania and Shelly Riel of Milford. Ten Grandchildren: Heather Madore, Christopher Daley, Mark Rogers, James Mosher, Benjamin Mosher, Jan Riel, Jennifer Tierney, Erin Fraser, Justine Chiavacchi, and Craig Fraser. 12 Great Grandchildren and one Sister Charlene Morin of Loudon. She was predeceased by a brother,Walter Bishop, who was lost at sea on the USS Scorpian in 1968 and her aunt, who raised her, Olive Paige. There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 So. Main St. Concord at 10:00 AM on Wednesday September 9th. Urn Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Pittsfield at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merrimack County Home, Recreation Dept. 325 D.W.Highway Boscawen, NH 03303 The Waters Funeral Home-Perkins & Pollard Memorial Home is assisting with arrangements.
