Ivan E. Lydick

Ivan Eugene Lydick was born to Samuel and Selma (Jacobson) Lydick October 25, 1926 in Oakland, Nebraska. He passed away August 15, 2019 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Ivan lived his entire life in Burt County. He attended country school near Bertha and attended Oakland High School, graduating in 1944. On April 17, 1953, he was married to Joanne Erlewine. To this union two children were born: Valerie Jean and Samuel Eugene. Ivan served in the army in WWII, served 31 years on the Rural Fire Board and 25 years on the Silver Creek Board. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. After being discharged from the army in 1947, he came home to farm. In addition to farming, he drove semi for Hulmquist and several area farmers. He also worked at the Chatt Center. He enjoyed coffee, card playing and pool playing with his buddies at the Chatt Center. They entered several tournaments and were quite the pool players! In his last four years, the time spent with his granddaughters and visits from his friends were the highlight of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne; children, Valerie and Sam; siblings, Rose, Jennie, Roma, Loraine, Bill and John. Survivors include his granddaughters, Carissa (Andy) Oligmueller and Cari (Nick) Brodersen of Tekamah, Joanna (Justin) Clark of Alma, NE, Samantha (Travis) Babcock of Colorado; grandsons, Jacob (Trista) Nelsen of Colorado, J.C. Nelsen of Alma; son-in-law, John Nelsen of Alma; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
