Betty Rose Hawthorne

Betty Rose Hawthorne, 91, of Mt. Zion, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Heritage Health in Mt. Zion. Betty was born September 22, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Harry Ross and Emma Jane (Munson) Watkins. She retired from Sears and was a founding member of Temple Baptist Church. She married Robert Edward Hawthorne January 11, 1946. He preceded her in death August 5, 1999. Betty was the last surviving Hawthorne of the greatest generation. Betty is survived by her daughters Carol (Joe) DeMarco of St. Johns, FL and Gail (Jim) Hord of Decatur, grandchildren Stephanie (Doug) Fagan of Mattoon and Branson (Deanna) Bridges of Ward, AR, great-grandchildren Emily and Benjamin Bridges of Ward, AR, and a host of nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel in Decatur with Pastor James Bosler officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday, August 19, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery.
