Virginia (Dot) Peavy Obituary

Virginia (Dot) Peavy was born on November 4th, 1923, in Ashville, North Carolina to Emma and Marion Wingate. One hundred and one years later, God summoned His faithful servant home to glory on Friday, August 9, 2019. Virginia was educated in Ashville, North Carolina. In 1944, she relocated to Newark, New Jersey where she met the love of her life, Walter Norris Peavy, Sr. In 1945 they were married and God blessed their union with two sons: Walter Norris Peavy, Jr. and Edward Tyrone Peavy. Virginia’s first job was for Mattel Toys. She later left Mattel to work for Singer Sewing Machine Company. She would later retire from Seton Hall University, where she worked in the housekeeping department. Virginia joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey, where she was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Russel Fox. Virginia was an avid movie watcher who loved the crafts of James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. She enjoyed the music of Lena Horn, Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong. Later in life, she developed a love for Tiger Woods and sisters Serena and Venus Williams. Virginia is lovingly survived by: her devoted son, Walter N. Peavy, Jr. (Michele); grandchildren, Walter N. Peavy, III (Katherine), Christiana M. Peavy and Stephen W.E. Peavy of Jersey City, New Jersey, and great granddaughter Daria Aniela Peavy of Jersey City, New Jersey; two beloved nieces, Joan Scott of Grier, South Carolina and Esther Wright (Chester) of Temple Hills, Maryland; and a dear family friend, Maggie Godette. She also leaves a host of great nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents (Emma and Marion), her son (Edward), her husband (Walter Sr.), all of her siblings (Hilliard, Norman, Eugene, Cal, Helena, Susie, and Thelma) and her first great grandson (Walter N. Peavy, IV). This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Virginia Peavy.
