Sadie Marie Tate

Sadie Marie Tate, 87, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019. She was born on January 17, 1932 to the late Charles Carson Austin and Emma Williams Austin. Sadie was a 1949 graduate of Bluefield High School in WV and a 1950 graduate of McLean Business College. In 1951, she married Clyde Junior Tate. Sadie was the consummate Army wife and fulfilled the responsibilities of that role perfectly. She moved 37 times during her husbands military career and retirement. Family was her life. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom who absolutely loved her family above all else. Her sense of humor, lively spirit, strength, courage in adversity, and willingness to help whenever needed endeared her to everyone she met. She is survived by her husband, Col. (Ret.) Clyde J. Tate, her daughter, Jerri McNew and her husband, Richard of Hagerstown, MD, her son, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Clyde "Butch" Tate II and his wife, Lynn of Fairfax Station, VA, her granddaughter, Sarah Morris and her husband, Chris of Leesburg, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Iva Culbertson, Jean Summers-Perine, and Betty Doughten, and her brothers, Lawrence Austin, Buck Austin, Harless "Snag" Austin, Bob Austin, and Howard Austin. Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 11:30am-12:30pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation on Friday and will begin at 12:30pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N Potomac St, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
