Clifford Mercer

Clifford (Cliff) Bramwell Mercer passed peacefully away at the JPMRHC in Gander, NL on August 9, 2019 at the age of 93 surrounded by his family. Cliff was predeceased by his parents William and Mabel, wife Gladys, son Garry, brother Jim (Verna), sister Gertrude (Garland Parsons) and son-in-law Milton Layte. Early in life, Cliff worked in the lumber woods and went on to complete a diesel mechanics course before working for many years as a foreman with McNamara Construction. Cliff then operated his own sawmill before retiring to enjoy gardening, moose hunting, fishing, and spending time with his companion Mickey the cat. Cliff always wanted to do something for his grandchildren, whether it was giving them “advice,” building something out of wood, or teaching them how to fish. Just last week, Cliff was talking about buying a quad to take his youngest great grandchildren for rides around the garden. Cliff will be remembered and greatly missed by his son John (Gloria) and daughters Joy, Brenda (Barry Pippy), and Judy (Shawn White). Cliff also leaves many fond memories with his grandchildren: Christa (Frank Vaughan), Andrea (Darren Gauthier), Susan, Jonathan Pippy (Victoria), Jessica (Alex Matchem), Bradley White (Megan), and Shauna. Cliff will also be missed by his great grandchildren Kianna, Kaeleigh, and Alex Vaughan, Noah and Chloe Gauthier, and baby Matchem (on the way), as well as a large circle of family and friends. Because Cliff loved to help others, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Northeast Health Foundation. Visitation will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Stacey's Funeral Home , Gander. Funeral service will be held at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander on Tuesday August 13th ,2019 at 1pm.
