Valentine “John” Chevchuc, 73, of Rockford, passed away August 6, 2019 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born December 18, 1945 in Regensburg, Germany; the son of Dimitry and Vera (Kolush) Chevchuc. He married Carol Strauss on December 26, 1975 in Rockton. A graduate of Auburn High School, John retired from Cellusuede Products, Inc. after 35 years of employment as the Chief Engineer. He was a member of Aldeen Golf Club, spoke 5 different languages, and a proud licensed airplane pilot. An avid golfer, John enjoyed gardening, cars, the Rockford IceHogs, birds and dogs, and taking numerous fishing trips to Canada with Carol and his boys. John was a very patient man, who will be missed by many. He was born in Germany and at the age of 2, his family moved to Venezuela, South America, where he spent 10 years of his life. He then moved to the United States where he later became a proud citizen. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carol Chevchuc; sons, John (Jennifer Beu) Chevchuc, Shawn Chevchuc, Michael (Wendy) Strauss and Mark (Allison) Strauss; daughter, Nancee (John) Beal; grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan, Vicki, Alex, Lindsey and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Kobe, Kycen, Aiden and Coner; best friend, Judy Hipple. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Boris Chevchuc. Funeral Service 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Visitation 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be submitted at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
