Carolyn Rose Smith Nugent left this Earth on August 6, 2019 to be with the Lord. She served Him faithfully throughout her life and spread His word to her family and friends. Billy and Carolyn Nugent were married for 63 years. Their love was a treasure to behold, and Billy could often be heard serenading her with "The Boll Weevil" song, much to the delight of all within earshot. She was a woman with many names, Momma, Maw maw and Pop Pop's Sweetheart. Carolyn loved her four boys and always spoke of how proud she was of each of them. Her grands and great-grands brought her immeasurable joy. For 19 years, she worked at Pollock Elementary. Carolyn had a knack for interacting with children, especially getting them to listen and to behave in church. She could spin a story out of thin air and make them stare in amazement at her imagination. She always created meaningful memories with her entire family, and these special remembrances are even more precious during this time of grief. Carolyn was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ann Smith and her parents, Clay and Marie Smith. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Billy Nugent, and her four sons, Paul and wife Rose, Jeffery and wife Dana, Samuel and wife Kecia, and Daniel and wife Melissa, her sister, Dollie Petrus, and 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. We gather to celebrate her life and legacy, not to say goodbye - but to say, "See you again soon.”
