Henry "Nick" Bird
Henry N. “Nick” Bird, 82, of Norcross, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019. Born and raised in Brookhaven, Georgia, Nick was a graduate of Chamblee High School. He married Barbara Anderson, who survives, in 1956. He served in the U. S. National Guard during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. During his long career in public service Nick first worked for the Dekalb County Fire Department. He then went to work for the Atlanta Police Department where he served until his first retirement in 1987. After retiring from Atlanta Police Department, Nick served with the Stone Mountain Park Police for twenty years. He had been a member of Brookhaven United Methodist Church and University Baptist Church, as well as the Free and Accepted Masons, Chamblee Lodge. A devoted family man, Nick loved spending quality time with family and friends. His passions included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing guitar, working in his yard and watching John Wayne movies. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ellis Bird and Ruby Jewell (Waddell) Bird, and a sister, Anita Redmon. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Bird; 2 sons and daughters in law, Hank and Sharon Bird, and Terry and Starr Bird; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Olivera, Chad Bird (Meg), Justin Bird and Joseph Bird; and 7 great grandchildren, Isaac Olivera, Lilli Olivera, Elijah Olivera, Lex Hardy, Eloise Bird, Bonham Bird and Dalyce Bird. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.crowellbrothers.com.
