Clara Deloris Bentley

Clara Deloris Bentley, age 87, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away early Friday morning, August 2, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Clara was born December 11, 1931, in Carthage, Missouri, to the union of the late George and Myrtle (Mellinger) Marsden. She was a 1949 graduate of Carthage High School. Following high school, she began her 15-year career at Atlas Powder Company as a secretary. Clara was united in marriage to Cecil H. “Jim” Bentley, Jr., and to this union two sons were born. Clara had a tremendous love for animals, especially cats. She enjoyed feeding the animals on her farm, which once belonged to her father. Clara was one of the best cooks and she looked forward to cooking for her family and friends. She was even known to help care for the neighborhood kids while they were growing up. Clara also enjoyed taking car rides to various places. She loved her family, especially her grandson, Clayton, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, in 1999; and her sister, Margie. Survivors include her two sons, James Bentley and wife, Teri, and William Bentley, all of Webb City; her grandson, Clayton Bentley, of Webb City; her niece, also her namesake, Clarissa McCoy, of Oronogo; her beloved dog, Puppy; as well as a host of extended family and friends. Graveside funeral services for Clara are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Joplin Humane Society in support of her great love of animals. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri.

I always enjoyed visiting Clara, Bill, Jimmy, and all of her cats and dogs. Listening to her stories were always very interesting!
