Ronald L. “Ron” Vandevander, 81, Tipton died early Friday morning July 5, 2019 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born February 28, 1938 in Bellwood the youngest of ten children of the late Charles A. and Mary E. (Ross) Vandevander. On July 2, 1960, he married Eleanor M. Cherry. Surviving are his wife of 59 years; a daughter, Karen of Tipton; a son, Scott and wife, UnHui of Charlotte, N.C. and their two sons, Chris and Alex of whom he was extremely fond; and his sole surviving sibling, Janet Mann of Cortland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Logan Wolfe; four sisters, Pearl Burns, Mildred Garman, Edith Cherry, and Phyllis Henry; and four brothers, Charles S., William E. “Bill” , Leonard B. and Paul B. He was a 1956 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. Ron was a US Army veteran serving with the Army Security Agency in Korea and also Vint Hill Farms Station in Virginia. In 1988, he retired from the CIA after 28 years of service and received Certificates of Distinction serving under two directorates during his tenure. Ron was an avid Bellwood-Antis, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steeler football fan, and also enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins. At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing, visitation or funeral service. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Ron’s request, please consider memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, American Red Cross, or a charity of your individual choice.
