Judith Bronston, 101, daughter of Morris and Pauline Margaretten, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on July 27, 2026 in Princeton, NJ. She grew up in Perth Amboy, NJ and was salutatorian of her graduating class at Perth Amboy High School. She earned an undergraduate degree from Douglas College and a Masters in Spanish from University of Maryland.

Judy had an adventurous spirit. She traveled the world, going to Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe, bringing back stories and beautiful artwork for herself and her daughters. She loved experiencing new cultures, food, and people. At the age of 99, Judy resumed art lessons to broaden her skills.

Her happy place was her summer home on Laurel Lake in Lenox, Massachusetts, which she and her beloved husband Bud bought in 1983, supplementing their long-time primary home in Westfield, NJ. She was an avid swimmer well into her 90s. She took pride in the annuals she planted, watching the hummingbirds at her four feeders, identifying other birds by their song and counting turtles on the log in the inlet. She enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets over the lake. Judy also loved the arts, especially enjoying Tanglewood, both as a volunteer and concert goer.

Judy demonstrated her values through her actions. She volunteered because she believed in serving her community. She was civic-minded because she believed in democracy. She valued inclusion and was the first to welcome new neighbors with a party. She was naturally curious which led her to being a lifelong learner. Her actions have made an imprint on all who were touched by her life.

Most important, Judy was devoted to her family and they to her. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her first husband of 37 years, Charles “Bud” Bronston, and her second husband of 17 years, George Lovitt. She is survived by her daughters: Baila Grinker (Dovid), Jan Gorban (Arik), Deb Bronston-Culp (Michael), Sue Griffis (Jim), and Ruth Bronston (Charly Buse); her sister Betty Cohen; her grandchildren, Rabbi Keren Gorban, Ben Gorban (Danielle Montag), and Chaya Mushka Shcherbina (Chaim); and her seven great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Alison Reinfeld (Ken), Chip Lovitt, and Rob Lovitt (Michele); their children, Erika Reinfeld (Sarah), Greg Reinfeld, Tim Goodman (Emma), Keith Lovitt (Jill), and Liane Osentoski (Andrew); and an additional six great-grandchildren, all of whom she joyfully welcomed into her family.

She was truly blessed, as were all who loved her. We will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held 11:30am Tuesday at Temple Beth El in Hillsborough. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
