Barbara Hall Steele Obituary

Barbara (Hall) Steele, 89, of South Windsor, formerly of Andover, beloved wife of Morgan Bowen Steele, died peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at The Village at Buckland Court, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Hartford, CT, on March 20, 1937, daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Schubert) Hall.

She grew up in East Hartford and was a graduate of East Hartford High School. Barbara married the love of her life, Morgan B. Steele, on March 28, 1964, and they began their life together in Manchester, before moving to Andover where they lived for 60 years, before moving to South Windsor. She worked as a secretary, first in the insurance industry and later for the Coventry Board of Education in the Coventry High School. She retired from the Coventry Board of Education after over 25 years of service.

Barbara was a former member of the Andover Congregational Church and dedicated much of her time to serving others, including volunteering on the board of directors at Network, Inc. She found great joy in baking, reading, tackling all kinds of word puzzles, and camping in her trailer with her family. Family vacations and trips with the seniors held a special place in her heart. She also thoroughly enjoyed driving the senior van for Lebanon and Andover, a role that allowed her to make many wonderful friends. A kind, caring, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Along with her husband of over 62 years, Morgan, she leaves her daughter, Holly Harakaly and her husband Theodore of Lebanon; her son, Glen Steele of Ashford; her daughter Janet Rousseau and her husband Aaron of North Attleboro, MA; her grandson, Joshua Harakaly of Manchester; a close niece Linda Fortuna and her husband Bruce of Manchester; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Schaller, Mildred Porter, and Nancy Johnson.

Her loved ones would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Village at Buckland Court for the exceptional care and abundant love they provided to Barbara and her family.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Townsend Cemetery, Townsend Road, Andover, CT 06232. There are no calling hours.
