Salvatore (Sal) Saitta, 90, of Manchester, CT, formerly of East Windsor, CT, beloved husband of Alma (Roy) Saitta, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Sal was born in New York City, NY, on November 9, 1935, son of the late Santiago (Sam) and Biaggina (Grace Russo) Saitta.

Sal grew up in Colchester and was a graduate of Bacon Academy in 1953. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1965, a master’s degree in secondary education in 1971 and his 6th year certificate in administrative education in 1974. He taught biology at Bacon Academy from 1965-1973, and then moved to East Windsor High School for 26 years where he served as Assistant Principal for 21 years and Principal for 5 years. After retirement, Sal continued to work part time-as an administrator in the education system. He was honored as Vice-Principal of the year in 1992 by the Connecticut Association of Schools. He was also a member of the CIAC field hockey committee and he was integral in establishing the Tri-Town co-op varsity Ice Hockey team serving East Windsor and surrounding towns.

Sal enjoyed golf and playing the accordion and organ. Sal and Alma enjoyed retirement together in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. A kind, caring, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many; he will be dearly missed.

Along with his wife of over 71 years, Alma, he leaves his sons, Salvatore Saitta, Jr. (Paula), of Willington, and John Saitta (Lori) of Rockfall; his brother, James Saitta of Columbia; his grandchildren, Lisa (Saitta) Hayes (Chris), Stephanie (Saitta) Sayers (David), Courtney (Saitta) Otterbein (Michael), Michael Saitta (Ashlee), and Jennifer (Saitta) Talaniec (Michael); and his great grandchildren, Tyler Sayers, Cameron Sayers, Jocelyne Sayers, Logan Saitta, Grace Otterbein, Benjamin Otterbein, Abigail Sayers, Braden Hayes, Haylee Saitta, and Charlotte Otterbein and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Saitta.

Sal’s family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 5-8 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 10 a.m., meeting directly at St. Marianne Cope Parish, St. Catherine Church, 6 Windsorville Rd., Broad Brook, CT. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Sal’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or the Halen & Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital.
