Evelyn Butler Hill, 89, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven and went to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.


She was born on April 7, 1937, in Richmond County, to the late James “Jim” Edward Butler and Ruby Taylor Butler.


Evelyn faithfully served the Lord, alongside her husband, Reverend Reddin “Buddy” Hill, and served as a dedicated Pastor’s wife for many years. She was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Church, and unwavering faith was evident in the way she lived each day. Evelyn was known to many as a praying mother whose prayers and encouragement touched the lives of her family and countless others.


Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her family. Whether gathered for a meal or sharing stories, the moments where everyone was together were among her most treasured. She especially loved hearing her family sing hymns.


She never met a stranger and always welcomed visitors with a warm smile and kind heart. She found happiness in the simple blessings of life. Her home was always a place of love, comfort, and hospitality, where family and friends always felt welcome.


Evelyn’s legacy is one of steadfast faith, unconditional love, and selfless devotion to her family. She leaves behind the example of a Godly woman. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who were blessed to know and love her.


Along with her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reverend Reddin “Buddy” Hill; and brothers, James Butler and Melvin Wright.


Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Sharon Norton (Okcuse) of Laurel Hill and Michelle Perakis (Jason) of Rockingham; sons, Bobby Hill (Audra) of Florence, SC, Tommy Hill (Maryglenn) of Rockingham, and Michael Hill (Candi) of Leland, NC; grandchildren, Caleb Hill, Becca McDonald (Cory), Chris Hill (Crystal), Ryan Hill (Claudia), Alex Hill, Courtney Norton (Audrina), Danielle Jara (Dago), Heather Strickland (Chris), Catlin Hill, Joshua Hill, Jonathan Hill, Tyler Perakis, and Nick Perakis; great grandchildren, Renlee Grace, Lexie, Sadie, Phoenix, Alora, Kylie, Alex, Mattis, Abby, Emma, and Olivia; and special friends, Tammy Lambert (Scotty) and Helen Shy (Willie).


A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00-3:00 pm, at Mt. Carmel Church in Rockingham. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm, with Pastor Mike Childers and Pastor Marvin Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham.
