Jayme Arthur Sundby, 63, tragically passed away due to injuries sustained in a fall in his home on July 13th, 2026.

Jayme was born on May 18th, 1963, to John and Elaine (Demers) Sundby of Colfax, WI. He grew up surrounded by his 4 siblings on the family farm north of Colfax. He was a mischievous, curious, and inquisitive child who occasionally got in trouble for getting into things he shouldn’t, earning him the nickname "Fingers Terwilliger". His childhood growing up on the farm made him a lover of all animals, but he especially loved cats. As a child, his first cat, Coonyac, would ride on his shoulders to and from the barn to do chores, and was the only cat granted the privilege of living in the house. This love of cats continued throughout his love and he always looked forward to ‘scooping’ up his kitties.

Jayme attended Colfax High School where he was an accomplished athlete playing basketball and as quarterback for the Colfax Vikings football team. After graduating high school in 1981, he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, WI where he received an associate degree in marketing in 1983. During his time in Eau Claire, he met Tammy Wibben who he married in 1990 and was married to for 12 years. They moved to Chaska, MN where he worked as General Manager of Lund’s Restaurants. Following his time with Lund’s, he worked for many years at Taher, Inc.as a District Manager and travelled the world to learn about different culinary cultures he could incorporate into school lunches. He found great joy managing the food service programs at schools across the Midwest, working directly with the students and staff to bring healthy and delicious meals to the schools. He had recently found a job with the food service department at Colfax Public Schools and was excited to be back doing the work he loved in a place he loved and always called home.

Jayme was an avid hunter and fisherman who looked forward to any opportunities to be outside hunting and fishing. One of his favorite times of the year was the beginning of June when he would go on an annual fishing trip to the boundary waters with his friends, priding himself in always catching the largest walleyes. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially football, and was uniquely a Minnesota Vikings fan born and raised in Packer country, a quirk he picked up from his mom. He was a lover of food an excellent cook who loved to experiment with new foods and techniques, including mastering the art of homemade ice cream. He was known for bringing joy and laughter to any gathering through his quick wit and personal library of sayings and nicknames, including many Zeekys and Toods.

Jayme had three beloved daughters, Talia, Lauren, and Alyson; and two granddaughters, Xalyra and Reomi. One of the great joys of his later years was being called ‘Papa’ by Xia and Remi.

He is survived by his three daughters, Talia (Jon) Irabagon, Lauren Sundby, and Alyson (Tucker) Sundby; grandchildren, Xalyra and Reomi Irabagon; sisters, Jolene (Jerry) Albricht, Janet Sundby, and Jackie (Charles) Hughes; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elaine; his brother, Jeff; and his two nephews, Jerrod and Jordan Albricht.

Jayme leaves a legacy of love, joy, and laughter. He will be missed greatly and remembered for the love he had for his family and the smiles and laughter he brought to everyone he met.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Chippewa Valley Cremation Services – Celebration of Life Center in Altoona. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Celebration of Life Center. He will be buried in a private family ceremony at Lower Running Valley Cemetery, Town of Colfax. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue or shelter of your choosing.
