James (Jim, Jimbo) Charles Waldrip

James Charles Waldrip, born April 15, 1974, in Mattoon, Illinois, passed away on July 16, 2026, in Columbia, Missouri.

Jim is survived by his mother, Brenda Kay Page (Columbia, MO); his devoted family caregiver Aloys (Patience; children Gaella, Elijah, and Olga) (Columbia, MO); his Aunt Jane Armer (Ashland, MO); cousins Jason (Rebecca) Shoot (Ashland, MO) and Nathan Armer (Columbia, MO); Janet Page (Galesburg, IL); and numerous friends and extended family who cherished him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Stephen Page, on June 26, 2026.

Jim’s creativity blossomed the day he and his mother walked into a sewing store in search of a replacement for her old machine. His eyes lit up at the sight of a computerized embroidery machine, and they left the store with it in hand. Together, they built Towels by Jim, a home‑based embroidery business that produced hundreds of customized towels and other items. These creations found their way into homes across Columbia, throughout multiple states, and even into a few other countries. Without advertising—relying solely on word of mouth—Jim stayed joyfully busy.

A fisherman at heart, Jim found peace wherever there was water: a family pond in Toledo, Illinois, the EIU Pond, or Stephens Lake Park in Columbia. Countless hours were spent under the park pavilion, catching and releasing fish, creating memories far more valuable than any day’s catch.

Jim was also a familiar presence on the campuses of Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University, and the University of Missouri–Columbia. Rolling along the sidewalks, he became part of campus life—supported by student helpers, welcomed in fraternity houses, hanging out in dorms and sorority lounges, featured in the EIU yearbook, and sipping frappes in campus coffee shops. He was, in every sense, a man about campus.

A generous soul, Jim delighted in delivering Shakespeare’s Pizza to Welcome Home Vets, Meals on Wheels, purchasing supplies for church‑sponsored school bags, and preparing communion with his father. His acts of kindness were quiet, steady, and sincere.

Jim taught everyone who knew him two profound lessons: the complexity of being human in our society, and the enduring importance of being humane to others. His absence leaves a question that cannot be answered—how are we to go on without you, Jim?

Jim’s gentle spirit united Aloys’s family with his own, forming a bond of love and togetherness that stands as one of the most enduring gifts he left behind.

Honoring Jim’s wishes, after a pause, his ashes will be peacefully scattered by immediate family in the Memorial Garden at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness toward others, in memory of a man whose life was marked by generosity, creativity, and quiet strength.
