Bertha “Alycia” Cervantes Orkney, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Arc at Streator surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with Rev. Sam Laury, officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Friday.

Alycia was born on December 18, 1943 in Tamazula Jalisco to Ignacio Rodriguez and Maria Estela Rodriguez Ochoa. She worked as a hairstylist and cosmetologist for 62 years. Alycia married her first husband, Raul Valdez Cervantes in Mexico. After his Raul’s passing, she married Carl Orkney in Boston, MA on December 29, 1990. Alycia was a member of First Naples Church in Naples, FL. She loved hair, nails, and clothes.

She is survived by her two children, Norma (Kelly) Cervantes Kennedy of Ottawa, George (Dee Dee Proehl) Cervantes of Naples, FL; eight grandchildren, Carlos (Brittany) Kennedy of Ottawa, Chad (Emily Manning) Kennedy of Grand Ridge, Ché Kennedy of Ottawa, Andrew, Adam, Alaina Cervantes all of Grand Rapids, MI, Alex (Lucy) Proehl Cervantes of Naples, FL, Daniel Proehl Cervantes of Naples, FL; five great grandchildren, Carter Kennedy of Ottawa, Camila Kennedy of Ottawa, Kinslee Kennedy of Grand Ridge, Brody Kennedy of Grand Ridge, Cameron Kennedy of Grand Ridge; and many neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Rodriquez and Maria Estela Rodriguez Ochoa; her first husband, Raul Valdez Cervantes; her second husband, Carl Orkney; a son, Raul Cervantes; a brother, Oscar Rodriguez; and a niece, Denise Rosas.

Her family would like to give a special thank you to the Nurses and CNAs at The Villas of Holly Brook, The Arc at Streator, and Transitions Care and Hospice.
