Dan Hennig, 63, of Waynesville, NC, passed peacefully on July 16, 2026. Born on November 20, 1962, in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of Carol and Paul Hennig. Dan graduated from Lincoln High School and Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, NY, and was a gifted classical pianist. He was a music teacher in Westchester County, NY, for many years

Dan lived with his parents in Yonkers and then Binghamton till they passed, and then he moved to Western NC to be closer to his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Peter Rickey. After moving to the South, Dan became a Baptist, went on to become a deacon, and met his wife, Regina Sheehan, at the Balsam Ridge Baptist Church in Waynesville, NC. They were a blessing to each other. Dan was an extraordinarily generous person, bringing joy to many people. Although he suffered from serious physical illness, he coped with his problems with tremendous grace. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sisters, Cindy Rickey (Peter) of Waynesville and Leaura Naomi of Bangkok, Thailand; and beloved niece, Kimberly Harper (Erich); his wife, Regina Sheehan; stepdaughter, Shaya Sheehan; stepson, Isaac Sheehan (Mary); and adored step-granddaughters, Maggie and Trennity Sheehan, all of Waynesville. He was Pappy Dan to many other children whom he thought of as his own grandchildren. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life for Dan will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Smoky Mountain Cremation and Funeral Service, 3732 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their favorite memories of Dan. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the Celebration of Life service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow services at Bethel Community Cemetery.
