David F. George, 85, passed away on July 16th, 2026 at Hearth and Home Senior Center, Urbana, OH.

David was born November 12, 1940 in Brierfield, U.K., the son of the late Frederick L. and Annie (Taylor) George.

David arrived in the U.S. in 1965. He lived in Washington D.C., California, Canada, and Africa. David arrived in Ohio in 1981 and was an English Professor at Urbana University since 1981. He was also the author of several books. David was a member of Knights of Columbus, Champaign County Right to Life, and the Ohio Valley Shakespeare Conference.

David is survived by his daughter, Alison Leslie Shaw; son, Paul Emile George; sister, and Anne Lloyd; and 5 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife, Rita, David was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beryl Hurst and his brothers-in-law, Maurice, Rene, and Ronald Lagace, as well as one nephew.

He will be dearly missed by his living daughter and son – in – law Alison and Brian Shaw.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at VERNON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday July 22nd from 5:00pm – 6:00pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Urbana, Ohio, on Thursday July 23rd at 10:00am, 228 Washington Ave, Urbana, with Father Kevin LeMelle, celebrant.

Burial will follow at OakDale Cemetery, Urbana, Ohio.
